Where it began: an idea shared between friends
The lodge started not in a committee room but in a conversation between friends, and a series of founders' meetings in Datchworth.
Like most good ideas, this one began in a conversation. The founders recognised how closely rugby's values mirror the principles of Freemasonry, Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Service, and asked why Hertfordshire's rugby community had no Masonic home of its own.
The first founders' planning meeting was held in Datchworth on 22 October 2025, agreeing the shape of the lodge: three meetings a year, rugby traditions, a lodge logo, and a charity focus on the mini sections of local clubs.
Many more meetings followed. Out of them came not a compromise but a consensus: a lodge that takes Freemasonry to where rugby lives, and gives back to the grassroots game.
